Rod Piazza - harmonica virtuoso
Rod Piazza has the opinion of one of the most influencial living harmoica musicians. On October 10th he will play together with The Mighty Flyers in Katowice Spodek Hall, during edition 29 of Rawa Blues Festiwal.
Rawa Blues Festival is the greatest and the oldest Polish blues music festival. The event takes place annually in Katowice, without any breaks since 1981. Since 1992 the festival became international, presenting the most accredited worldwide blues stars, including: Koko Taylor, Luther Allison, Junior Wells, Carey Bell, C.J. Chenier, James Blood Ulmer, Nora Jean Bruso and many others. This year, Rod Piazza is going to join this hall of fame of Rawa Blues Festival. We asked the members of Artistic Council of the Festival, but also known journalists for their opinion regarding upcoming show.
- Piazza is not only the leader of amazing band, composer and vocalist. Firstly, he is harmonica virtuoso - says Ryszard Gloger. - He elaborated his own sound, deep and solid tone, he can play crazy solo, he fulfills greatly the role of accompanist and enrich the harmony with plenty of harmonica acoustic colours.
Rod Piazza for me is, next to William Clarke who passed away, the most important person of blues harmonica players from California, where the prime time belongs to white musicians, says Marek Jakubowski.
This year Rawa Blues Festival will take place on October 10th, in just reconditioned Spodek Hall in Katowice. 19 band will play on 2 stages. Except for Rod Piazza, Eric Sardinas, Eden Brent, Shakin' Dudi and the best of Polish blues bands will play.
